About Movember
The Movember Foundation is a global not-for-profit, charitable organisation which runs the men’s health initiative, Movember. Each year, we are responsible for the appearance of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces around the globe, with the aim of raising vital funds and awareness for men’s health.
Movember is a month where Mo Bros put down their razors and grow a Mo. Through their moustache, each Mo Bro, supported by their Mo Sistas, generates money via donations and conversation around the subject of men’s health. The rules are simple, register online at Movember.com, start the month of November clean shaven and grow a Mo.
As an organisation, we have a goal to change the attitudes men hold toward their health. The moustache is the symbol by which we generate the necessary awareness and funds in order to be able to achieve this ambition. It is a simple and effective way to reach our number one objective – awareness – as during Movember, each Mo Bro effectively becomes a walking billboard promoting men’s health.
While Movember is relatively new in Ireland, it started in Melbourne, Australia in 2003 as a challenge to bring back the moustache. In 2004 the campaign evolved to become a fundraising event for prostate cancer, raising AUD$55,000 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. Since then Movember has expanded globally, having raised more than €36 million for its beneficiary partners in Australia, New Zealand, UK, US, Canada, Spain and Ireland. As a direct result of these campaigns, men's awareness of health issues has improved with the campaign spreading health messages directly to millions around the world.
Movember will continue to work toward changing established habits and attitudes to make men aware of the health risks they face, thereby increasing early detection, diagnosis and effective treatment. We encourage you to join us, as every moustache makes a difference.
